Film Developing and Printing Services

No, film is not dead. In fact it has been making a bit of a comeback.

At The Photo Finishers, we never stopped processing and printing film. We still process film the traditional way with chemicals, and we always return your negatives to you after processing.

Did you know that some companies use what is called a dry process to develop your negatives? What that means is your film is essentially destroyed and the scanned images are what you get as “originals”, you do not have negatives returned to you, only digital files on media.

Why is dry film processing bad?

Because the negatives you create are your “Master Original”. For example, let’s say on your roll of film, you have captured the perfect photograph, the one image you have always dreamed of creating, the image that all your planning and studying and skills finally came together to create your masterpiece.

You have it dry processed with no negatives back. The largest size you can EVER make that image is whatever native size that file was scanned, or saved on your media as.

If you have it processed traditionally and get your negatives returned to you, those negatives hold all the magic, all the data you will ever need. The can be rescanned to a higher resolution to capture even more detail and chroma. In other words you can go back to the well for near infinite drinks of water, with the dry process method, you only get one glass of water. That’s it, one chance.
